Car brakes are one of the most important parts of the vehicles, especially when it comes for safety. But like other car parts, over time the brakes will experience wear and tear depending on your driving style, the driving conditions and the quality of the brakes. Before your brakes stop working completely, you’ll probably notice a few signs that they need replacing.

In this blog, we explain some of the top signs you need to look out for.

Screeching sounds

When you press down on the brakes your car should come to a noise-free stop. However, if your brakes are beginning to wear out, you may notice high-pitched screeching or squeaking as you brake. This audible warning should not be ignored as it’s a clear indication that your brake pads are wearing out, making them less effective with every journey.

Vibrations and grinding

You may also notice vibrations or pulsating under the brake which could be a sign that the brake pads are not in contact with the rotor or they are warped. Additionally, you might also notice grinding which can be felt under the brake pads and heard – again, this is likely to be a problem caused by damaged rotors. The metal on metal sound probably means your brakes need completely replacing, so don’t ignore it.

Less responsive

One of the most obvious signs that your brakes need replacing is when they become less responsive. Pay attention to how they are working – are you having to apply extra pressure? Is it sinking into the floor? If your brakes have become unresponsive this is a serious problem that needs dealing with as soon as possible. Unresponsive brakes can result in serious road accidents as they will affect your response time.
